A Student's Eye-Opening Experience

Originally published by Junior Achievement of New Jersey. The following testimonial/ letter is from Courtney Lovell, a JA BizTown student.

"If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito."-Anita Roddick. This quote can easily make someone think about how much inspiration something small or short can truly have to impact something big. The day I visited Junior Achievement of New Jersey's JA BizTown I saw my impact on others. But most importantly I realized their impact on me."

"When I went to JA Biztown I worked at JA Bank and I was CEO. The bulk of my job as CEO was that I had to keep my station clean, keep my peers who I worked with on task, and collect and then file business plans and reports. These responsibilities, plus others, gave me a perspective of a real working CEO. I got to experience repeating myself, rushing to meet deadlines, greeting people, receiving insurance, filling out endless documents, paying employees, giving speeches, and much more. Some of these may sound like negative points but because JA BizTown exposed me to these things, I have learned the correct way to address and conquer them."

"The day I visited Junior Achievement of New Jersey's JA BizTown, they impacted me. My eyes have been opened! When I attended JA BizTown, I received an insight to the hard work needed to accomplish great things. At JA BizTown I was a CEO, a CFO, a savings officer, a teller, and a financial manager all at the same time. But most importantly I was a leader. The volunteers and coordinators of JA BizTown showed me that I could do it all. By presenting myself with leadership my peers reacted to me with respect, attention, and discipline. Attending JA BizTown I was able to practice my independence, a trait needed to handle college. I enjoyed the feeling of being my own person but still fulfilling what was asked of me. I was only at Junior Achievement of New Jersey's JA BizTown for one day but the impact will be life-long."

"After my day at Junior Achievement of New Jersey's JA BizTown, I know that for now I?d rather be a kid and student than an adult and busy. The impact and empowerment I received from Junior Achievement of New Jersey's JA BizTown is immeasurable and will never be forgotten. Junior Achievement of New Jersey's Diversity Statement is " Junior Achievement is the recognized leader in "empowering young people to own their economic success?" through volunteer-led, experiential learning. And I can honestly say they do."
