Cleveland Native Drew Carey Recognizes JA on Twitter

What do comedian and actor Drew Carey and Junior Achievement have in common? More than you might think! Program manager for Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland Leah Deppert shared a story of how hometown comedian Drew Carey recently recognized Junior Achievement through social media.

Last month JA of Greater Cleveland hosted a "JA Blitz Day," which is what they call JA in a Day. Volunteers from Fifth Third Bank and Ohio Savings Bank taught more than 250 students in one day in 10 different classrooms. The volunteers taught third grade through eighth grade at Charles A. Mooney School. Charles A. Mooney also just happens to be Drew Carey's alma mater.

Charles A. Mooney is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The school has been part of JA of Greater Cleveland?s strategic focus this last academic year because the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is the most in need in regards to free and reduced lunch, poverty levels and socioeconomic status.

"It was very neat to have this celebrity recognition," Leah said. "The teachers and students really wanted Drew to retweet their school's twitter handle, so they were having students pose with Drew's face over their faces during their JA lessons. Drew didn't retweet it until later that evening, but the teachers and students were super excited. I thought it was pretty cool too."
