Salam School in Milwaukee Becomes Big Fan of JA

[Image]Antonio Avery, a senior program manager for Junior Achievement of Wisconsin, shared his experience from a unique collaboration that sprung up between Junior Achievement of Wisconsin and the Salam School in Milwaukee, Wis."As the Senior Program Manager here in Milwaukee County, my job is to secure educational partnerships with schools and school districts. I was very fortunate to have made one such partnership I think is worth mentioning," Antonio said. Recently, Junior Achievement of Wisconsin formed a new partnership with Salam School. Salam School <http://www.salamschool.net/> in Milwaukee is a school whose tradition is rich in Muslim values. Salam School seeks to develop citizens who embody the spirit of Islam and strive to improve their society through faith, perseverance and service to others. The service to others is what brought Junior Achievement of Wisconsin and Salam together. The school administrator at Salam felt there was a connection between JA wanting young people to understand the economics of life and opening their minds to their potential and the values that Salam teaches. According to the school?s website, their mission statement is to empower their students to achieve Islamic and academic excellence. "Salam School seeks to develop citizens who embody the spirit of Islam and strive to improve their society through faith, perseverance and service to others."As an organization, Junior Achievement believes its programs are critical for all students, regardless of their socio-economic status or ethnicity. Junior Achievement is constantly looking at ways to reach new students with JA programs and it is through partnerships like that with the Salam School that more students get to experience JA each year. "I was able to secure a first-time school with 18 classes from kindergarten through fifth grade and more than 500 students received Junior Achievement," Antonio said. "Because Salam has a parent volunteer component, the school also provided a parent who is presenting all lessons to each grade level!"
